ANG2010 - A Promising Morphine Derivative
Morphine is widely used for managing acute and severe pain, but carries undesirable side effects such as constipation, nausea and vomiting. Further, it has been shown that only a very small percentage of the administered dose of morphine actually gets through to the brain.
Angiochem is developing a morphine derivative based on the EPiC technology platform. ANG2010 has the potential to more effectively reach the brain, enabling a far lower administered dose and the resulting potential for significantly decreased side effects compared to standard morphine.
Targeting a morphine product to the central nervous system is a novel approach, and early stage discovery studies of ANG2010 are very promising.
